My best friend and original partner in this hobby, Dan, got our name from the song
Misty Mountain Hop by Led Zeppelin. However, I do not think that he knew that the lyrics did not say
Whoopie Kat. The correct words to the song are
"Just then a policeman stepped up to me and asked us, said, Please, hey,
would you care
to all get in line, get in line."
If you would like to hear it for yourself, just click on the play button below to start the song.
The area is in the second verse of the song. The whole song is here if you wish to listen, so please enjoy!

Hello, My name is Keven; my friend and I are the creators of Whoopie Kat Decals. I have had several people ask me, "How did you get started making decals?”… Well, my best friend, Dan, is an avid model builder and collector. Dan has been drawn to the drag racing scene for quite a while now and has always loved the look of the vintage cars. The only problem with this, with regards to model building, is that most of the cars that he liked did not have decals offered by anyone in the modeling industry. Well, Dan talked to a few aftermarket decal makers and asked them if he could draw up the graphics for a specific car, would they be able to transform his artwork into decal form? Dan is quite the artist and has been drawing for many years now. The cost to do this for him was too high and let’s face it; there was not much of a good response anyway. This did not stop Dan. He was determined to find some way to make some custom decals for himself. There was a company called Alps that had come out with a new style of printer; one that would print white, gold foil, and so on. Dan just had to have one at a cost of around $1500.00 at the time. Ouch! A bit of a high price for just a hobby guy, isn't it. Well, before he could purchase this cool printer, he would need to get some car graphics drawn. He picked out a half-a-dozen different cars and sat down to draw. After he had drawn up a few designs he felt that he was ready to proceed with his dream. One big problem was, Dan did not have the first clue how to put his artwork onto the computer, much less, how to turn on a computer (LOL). This is where he contacted me. At the time, I had just graduated with a degree in Computer Information Systems (Computer Programming); therefore, Dan felt that I could help. Well, I was working for Intel in Hillsboro, OR when he first came to me about this new idea of his. I told him that I would try to find the time to scan it into the computer for him, but, that he would have to clean it up in order to prepare it for printing. His response to that was; “You are the programmer, and you can do it for me! After I finished getting the first decal ready for printing, I think it was the Terry Hedrick’s Super Shaker decal, I printed it out and he was so excited he said “why don’t we start selling these on eBay, we could make a lot of people happy.”. That is how Whoopie Kat Decals came about. We put our first decal onto eBay Thanksgiving week 2006. Dan would draw the graphics and I would scan the artwork into the computer, do all of the touch ups and then print out the decals on our Alps MD 5000 printer. Since then, Dan became too busy to continue with the decal hobby (due too his family, work, school, and his hobby), so he turned it over to me. Dan still does some of the artwork for me; however, I have been doing my own artwork for the past two years. My wife, Sandi, now helps me by printing, clear coating, and mailing out orders, not to mention, cracking the whip, keeping me on track of things. It is hard to believe that it has been just over three years now, not bad for just a hobby. I have met a lot of new and exciting people (Randy Walls, Tom "Mongoose" McEwen, and "TV" Tommy Ivo, just to name a few) and made some great friends. I enjoy working close with Speed City Resin Models. Scott has an excellent product and has helped me out on several occasions. My daughter and I even had the pleasure of meeting with Scott and seeing his personal collection. Scott, my daughter, and I also had the opportunity to meet up with John Day (one of my good friends and customer) where we went to the March Meet 2008 in Famoso, CA. I am hoping that this hobby will be able to keep going for everyone to enjoy. Keven
